Many match designs are based on original antiques. Some, like or measuring beakers also have a wonderful story.
ong ago these beakers were used for measuring things like oil or flour in a shop. Periodically, an official inspector would visit to make sure the shopkeeper wasn't cheating the customers by using beakers with false bottoms. Not uncommon, and very sneaky!
Each time a beaker passed inspection, a stamp was pressed in its side to show it was either a true measure and the shopkeeper was honest — or that the inspector was bribed. Either way, the beaker was stamped!
